The Luminous Anhinga

11"x15", Soft pastel on salmon-colored Pastelmat

This soft pastel features a male Anhinga in breeding plumage. The reference photo was taken by my mom near her home in South Carolina. Anhingas love dense foliage and I tried to keep that feel for this, using the branches as framing - but really not much change from her reference pic! That was already there.

This pastel painting was juried into the 2025 Pastel Society of South Carolina Luminosity & Light exhibition.
