Oil and acrylic on glass, 2004
The second piece in this series, started way back in 2004. It's an expressive method of working - very loose, colorful, moody, and enhanced by the vintage window frames. The layers of color go down over the black linework, and the glass allows for scraping of areas to produce some of the texture as well. I found it tricky to paint in reverse on the glass, but the end result was satisfying with the colors appearing so vibrant directly on the glass. This series blends architecture and figurative and elements and keeps a pretty bold palette in some respects yet muted in others.
