A contemporary imppressionism take based on a photo I took on a hike in Michigan. Canadian wildfires contributed to the striking sunset.  This oil painting has vivid colors, thick impasto strokes that aren't overly layered and a bright underpainting. The paint strokes are intended to play off of one another and not just blend together. I think that's why people respond to Impressionism. It's been challenging in a good way to work in this style, which also requires more planning and paint mixing up front.
