"Blue Maize" is a watercolor and soft pastel work on Arches watercolor paper. This is a loose, colorful expressive study. I wouldn't call it a still life, but it is perhaps in that vein. Playing wtih abstraction and technique to create a sense of life and growth and vibrancy. The watercolor and soft pastel is almost evenly distributed - the watercolor is not just an underpainting. It really set the structure and tone, and the pastel punched the colors and softened edges.
