Nightwatcher, The Green Heron

A quiet presence emerges from shadow—this green heron is captured in a moment of stillness, surrounded by layered movement and atmosphere inspired by the wetlands of the Indiana Dunes.

This piece is created through a mixed media process combining watercolor with subtle touches of POSCA paint and colored pencil, bringing depth and texture to the surface. The artwork is mounted to a gallery-depth birch panel, sealed with an archival UV protectant, and finished with a cold wax layer that softens and unifies the surface.

The cradled panel is painted in carbon black, reading as a deep midnight blue, creating a built-in frame that enhances the moody, immersive quality of the piece.

This piece was juried into the Indiana Audubon's Dune Birds in Art: 2026 Exhibition at Ancillaerie, 109 S Calumet Rd, Chesterton IN 46304
